Why is ventilation important?

Everyday activities such as cooking, washing dishes, bathing, watering plants or even breathing generate water vapour inside rooms. This moisture should be removed together with stale air through ventilation grilles, while fresh air should enter the room through dedicated air inlets, window micro-openings or tilt positions.

Ventilating new homes and buildings is especially important, as additional moisture comes from freshly laid plaster, wallpaper, walls and other construction elements.

What is water vapour condensation?

Condensation is the process of water vapour turning into liquid. This occurs when warm, humid air comes into contact with cold surfaces. You can observe it, for example, on the inside of car windows on a rainy day or on glasses fogging up in winter when entering a warm room.

Due to their location and characteristics, roof windows are often the first place where condensation appears — an indication that the room has a high humidity level.

How can condensation be reduced?

The key to reducing condensation is properly functioning ventilation. To ensure effective removal of stale air, a constant supply of fresh air is needed — through micro-opening the windows or opening air inlets.

Condensation on the glass can also be reduced by correctly installing radiators directly under the window and by creating a vertical window lining. If a window sill is installed, a gap must be left between the sill and the wall to allow airflow.

What solutions are used in FAKRO roof windows to reduce condensation?

The air inlet built into FAKRO windows ensures a constant, adjustable flow of fresh air even when the window is closed. The handle construction allows three locking positions, enabling controlled micro-opening and increased fresh air supply. The upper sash lock allows the window to be secured in the tilt position.

All FAKRO roof windows are equipped with highly energy-efficient glazing units with a heat transfer coefficient of Ug = 1.1 W/m²K or better.
